Toes to Nose Pet-icure Balm will soften on contact with skin and apply smoothly. Swipe a thin layer to the pads of their feet, elbows and noses gently rubbing it in if you can, but if you can't that's not a problem. The twist up stick makes it easy to spread around while applying it. Apply any time, and don't worry if they lick it off. This is especially useful for applying right before going for walks in the snow, as it will discourage the accumulation of snow and ice balls on the fur between their toes.
